Custom ERP software, one department at a time
Purchase, production, stock, sales, dispatch and the accounts link in one system, built module by module around how your business already works, with Tally left where it is.
Custom ERP software connects purchase, production, stock, sales and accounts into one system built around your own workflow rather than a vendor template. We build it for Indian manufacturers, job-work units, traders and multi-branch groups that have outgrown spreadsheets and standalone tools but do not want to reshape their business around a packaged product.

Who this is for
ERP is a word that sounds bigger than it is. For a printing press in Sivakasi it means this: an estimate becomes a job card, the job card books paper from stock and a slot on a machine, the finished job goes out with a delivery challan, the invoice follows, and the owner can see every job, every outstanding and every reel of paper from one screen. Today those steps live in a quotation Excel, a production whiteboard, a godown notebook and Tally, and the gaps between them are where money leaks. The same shape appears in a rice mill with two units and three depots, or a wholesale distributor with branches in three districts. If your business has four or more departments passing paper between them, you are the reader this page is for.
What we build
- Purchase: indents, supplier quotes, purchase orders, goods receipt and supplier bills matched against them.
- Production or job work: job cards, bill of materials or paper and ink consumption, machine scheduling, wastage and yield recording, stage-wise status.
- Stock: raw material and finished goods by location, batch where needed, transfers between units.
- Sales and dispatch: quotations, orders, delivery challans with e-way bill fields, invoices with GST, outstanding and collection follow-up.
- Accounts link: vouchers exported to Tally or your accounting package, so your auditor and your books stay exactly where they are.
- Multi-branch: each unit or depot with its own stock and documents, consolidated at head office.
- Roles and approvals: who can raise, who can approve, with limits, and a trail of every change.
- Reports and dashboard: job profitability, outstanding by customer, stock valuation, machine utilisation, and a mobile view for the owner.
How it fits an Indian business
Tally stays as the book of accounts in nearly every ERP we build, because replacing it would mean retraining your auditor for no gain. The ERP owns the operational truth and feeds Tally the vouchers. GST, HSN and e-way bill data sit on the master records once. Approvals happen on WhatsApp or in the app, since the managing director approves purchase orders from the car, not the office. Collections are chased with UPI links on the outstanding statement. Staff in the godown and on the shop floor use an Android app with the three screens they need and nothing else.
How the build runs
The reasons ERP projects fail are known: a big-bang launch, modules nobody asked for, and a team that stops attending demos. So we phase it. A discovery workshop maps every document that moves between departments. The first module, usually sales and dispatch or purchase, goes live within the first month; the rest follow every three to four weeks, each proven on real transactions before the next starts. Opening balances and masters are migrated by us, with the old system run in parallel for one cycle. VS Tech Builders assigns one person who sits with your departments through the whole build, which is the difference between an ERP that is used and one that is installed.
What it costs and why
Custom ERP software typically starts around ₹85,000 for a tightly scoped first module. A complete system across purchase, production, stock, sales and the accounts link falls between ₹1,50,000 and ₹5,00,000. Multi-branch groups with staff apps and consolidated reporting sit at ₹5,00,000 and above. Scope, integrations and the number of branches decide the figure; user count does not, because there are no per-seat licences. The pricing page sets out the milestone terms, the 14-day correction window, the support plans and the source-code handover that applies to every project.
When Tally, Zoho or Odoo is enough
Many businesses that ask for an ERP do not need a custom one, and it is cheaper for everyone if we say so early. If accounts and simple stock are your whole need, Tally with its inventory features is enough. If you are comfortable with subscriptions and your workflow is standard, Zoho Books with Zoho Inventory covers trading businesses well. If you are prepared to adapt your process to a mature framework and pay for implementation, Odoo is a serious option. Custom is for the business whose workflow is its advantage, whose units and documents do not fit a template, or whose staff will abandon anything that adds steps. We have written fair comparisons of custom ERP versus Tally and custom ERP versus Odoo, and the manufacturing units and printing presses pages show two of these systems in detail.
Frequently asked questions
Do we have to leave Tally if we build a custom ERP?
No, and we usually advise against it. Tally remains your book of accounts and your auditor keeps working in it. The ERP handles operations, from purchase to dispatch, and exports the resulting vouchers into Tally. You get one operational system without retraining the accounts team or migrating years of ledgers.
How soon will something be usable, rather than waiting months for everything?
The first module is live within the first month in most projects, usually sales and dispatch or purchase, chosen because it is the department with the most leakage. Further modules follow every three to four weeks, each run on real transactions before the next begins. You see value early and the team learns one workflow at a time.
What happens if our process changes while the ERP is being built?
Small changes are absorbed inside the current module; we expect them because weekly demos surface better ways of working. A change that alters scope, such as adding a new document type or a branch, is quoted as a written variation before it is built, so the fixed price stays honest and nobody is surprised at the end.
Who owns the ERP code and data when the project ends?
You do. On the final milestone payment the source code, database, design files, hosting accounts and documentation are transferred to you, with no licence fee and no per-user charge. Another developer could maintain it tomorrow. We offer support plans and retainers because most clients prefer it, not because you are locked in.
Why not just implement Odoo or buy Zoho instead?
For a business with a standard workflow and the willingness to adapt to the framework, Odoo or Zoho is a sensible, often cheaper, choice and we say so in the first meeting. Custom wins when your process is your competitive edge, when your units and documents do not fit a template, or when staff will abandon any system that adds steps to their day.
